Meet Megan Boister, the Terry Mansfield Fashion Publication Award Winner at GFW22. She attended Arts University Bournemouth, studying Fashion Branding and Communication.

How do you feel about winning a GFW22 award?

I feel extremely grateful that something I put my heart and soul into has received such praise and love. It feels so surreal to see my work get recognition at this level after dreaming of having my work featured at GFW throughout my three years at university.

What was the inspiration starting point for your award-winning FMP?

The starting point for Utter Filth Magazine was the need to tackle taboo topics within society. The lack of adequate sexual education is something we all have been exposed to. Sex is something so normal yet so stigmatised and that is something that needs addressing.

What skills did you learn and develop during the production of your FMP?

I learnt a lot about myself as a creative through this project. I worked on aspects I never thought I could succeed at. I developed my photography and communication skills, working with other creatives to create amazing ideas that come to life.

What were some challenges that you faced in producing your FMP and how did you overcome these?

I faced a few challenges throughout the creation of Utter Filth, mainly just working against society and finding work that showcased themes around mine. I overcame this just with perseverance and by talking to so many people trying to work with them and asking them to be a part of the magazine.

Are there any messages or major themes in your FMP that you want people to take away? If so, how did you choose to communicate them?

I want the magazine to become a place of freedom and self-expression, making sure to be who you wanna be. Utter Filth aids sexual freedom and journeys within it’s carefree, fun and flirty visual style.

What is an aspect of the fashion industry that you want to help improve or have a positive impact on?

An impact I want to have is the breaking down of social attitudes toward sex and help better the sexual education of younger generations.

What form does your FMP take? Is it a collection of clothing, book, presentation, etc? If relevant, how did you source the materials for the project?

Utter Filth takes the form of a physical and digital publication with the brand also including products like Underwear, Handcuffs and Butt Plugs.

What are your plans for the near future (further study/ internship/ work?) now that you've finished your BA?

After my BA I hope to move more into social media and influencer marketing, working with a brand that shares the same lighthearted and fun values as me.
